‘BGM HYDERABAD’ – A WALK DOWN THE MEMORY LANE!

Every BGM event has an extraordinary story to tell:

 A story like no other,

A story that celebrates solidarity, triumphs and defeats all together,

A story that has been written in history with ink that will remain forever.

 With fervour and gusto, Birla Institute of Technology and Science hosted its second BITSAA Global Alumni Meet 2014 in the magnificent city Hyderabad. BITSAA aims to strengthen the ties, friendship and communication amongst former students, alumni faculty and friends of the Institute.

Themed on celebrating innovation, achievement and leadership, BGM 2014 witnessed a union of BITSians from across the globe bringing Bitsians of the four campuses from across the globe onto one platform.

The conference was held for three days starting from 3rd January, 2014 and was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of BITS Pilani, Prof Bijendra Nath Jain, Prof V S Rao (Director, BITS-Pilani Hyderabad campus), Dr. Ashok Agarwal (Chairman-BGM), Raju Reddy (Chairman-BITSAA International), and Sanjay Kendry (CEO-BGM) along with over 1,500 BITSians from over 20 countries and faculty members also graced the occasion. MM Pallam Raju (Union Cabinet Minister for Human Resource Development) the Chief Guest of the meet, and Stewart Beck (Canadian High Commissioner to India) the Guest of Honor were also present.

The various events of the meet included workshops, entertainment programs, batch reunions, accomplished alumni award presentations, faculty felicitations and panel discussions by scholars and top CEOs on the subjects of innovation, leadership and entrepreneurship including Lakshmi Narayanan (Vice-Chairman, Cognizant Technology Solutions), Harish Bhat (MD & CEO, Tata Global Beverages), Rajesh Hukku (Former chairman & CEO i-Flex), Raj Gollamundi (Director, Intel Capital), SP Kothari (Deputy Dean, MIT Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts, USA), A.Arumugam (Board Member, CIIE, IIM Ahmedabad), Samay Kohli (CEO, Grey Orange Robotics), and Phanindra Sharma (Founder & CEO, RedBus) among others.

The highlight of the event was the recognition of eminent alumni as future business leaders and under-30 achievers.

Celebrating the completion of 50 years of BITS Pilani, the event witnessed the unveiling of ‘BITS of Success’, a special edition book highlighting the impressive journey of 50 successful BITSians, including inventors of Bharat Forge, Onida, Hotmail (Microsoft), i-Flex (Oracle), RedBus, Insieme (Cisco), Sierra Atlantic (Hitachi), FoodKing, MapmyIndia, VarshaJal and the Buddh International Circuit among others.

Speaking about the expectations from BGM 2014, Dr. Agarwal said “BITSians have always aspired to explore new ways to contribute to our alma mater. BGM 2014 serves as a manifestation of the combined efforts of the BITSian community to come together, create memorable moments as well as recognize top achievers who serve as role models for future leaders. We are extremely proud to have met our promise to raise one million dollars for BITS Pilani sponsored causes and are confident that the meet will serve as the genesis of better things to come and will contribute in the university’s progress to become one of the top institutes in Asia.”
