First post! Welcome to BGM 2011!

Everyone from the BITSAA Global Meet team would like to say a big ‘Hello’. With all the dialogue swirling around the atmosphere regarding the BITSAA Global Meet, we have a lot to say and keep you updated about the upcoming event through mails and a dedicated blog like this.

First things first, the genesis to celebrate BGM 2011 with our fellow BITSians sprouts from the following facts (although not an exhaustive list) -

  • It has been 50 years since the 1st Batch enrolled at BITS
  • BITS has grown into 4 fully functional campuses – Pilani, Dubai, Goa, Hyderabad
  • Our alumni are spread across 15+ countries
  • We need to take the ‘BITS’ brand to the next level
  • We have to enhance inter-chapter and inter-batch relations
  • We have never had a global meet so far :)

Before we start sounding dreary, let us get some basic FAQ(s) cleared in the very first post.

Q) Who are attending the event?

A) BITSians who are academicians, government officials, policy makers, entrepreneurs, CXOs & veterans from varied industries across different batches. We will shortly launch a ticker scrolling on the homepage to show the registered BITSians.

We will soon come out with a detailed description of what is planned for a productive & fun-filled 3-day conference in the Content & Agenda section of the BGM website.

Two weeks and no posts by a BITSian in the blog.. thats strange since BITSians of my vintage (1975-80) were never known for their silence!!

Of course during our time, when Internet,TV and such distractions were not around (and God bless whoever figured out that attendances need not be compulsory)..we talked…in the Mess, in Nutan (where no one goes now), in Connaught, at the Redi’s ( BTW, what happenend to the fracas about Rediwala’s being banished), at the PO/Bank Canteen ( this remains only in memory since physical traces are long gone)…and we talked.

It was called ‘lachha’ and the event was an end in itself.

I had the singular good fortune to be in Goa during the first meeting when the BGM was conceived alongwith CS Goel, Shrikant, Krish, Sunil Nanda and others. And I am amazed at the momentum it has gathered in this short time.

My personal view is the BGM is the best initiative taken by the BITS Alumni and the officials and should act as a catalyst in bringing the BITSians strewn across the world. Even if some people cannot attend, this would give the local chapters, Batches to unite and build up the Alumni movement.

So,jaagon sonewalo, start contributing to this blog, share your ideas and thoughts and lets start”Giving Back to BITS”… as a start by making the BGM a great success.

    Silent BITSian??? An oxymoron???????
