Indian Army DGEME 1988, Batch of 1947
Lt Gen Rajgopal was born in Tirumangalam, Tamil Nadu on 7 June 1930 and had his early education at Coimbatore, finishing his school final in 1945. Thereafter, he completed his Intermediate in Science from Presidency College, Madras.
He later joined BITS Pilani in 1947 and graduated in Mechanical Engineering with a First Division in 1951 following which he joined the Indian Army. He served in various command and staff positions in the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) for 36 years. Starting his career as a Second Lt in 1952, he rose with distinction, to become a Lt General, serving as the Director General of the Corps of EME. He was awarded the Ati Visishta Seva Medal for “distinguished service of most exceptional order” by the President of India in 1983.
After his retirement in 1988 he settled down in Secunderabad and kept in touch with various defence institutions like MCEME, College of Defence Management, College of Air Warfare, etc. He is also a keen golfer and a Life member of KalaSagaram, a cultural organisation promoting classical music, dance and drama. He is one of the early members of BITSAA, Hyderabad Chapter. He has since settled down in San Diego, USA.
